Hanging plant well drama
Okay so you know how I got obsessed with hanging totally plants? Yeah, well, it’s been… a journey. I wasn’t even planning to I mean get so many, it just kinda just happened. for sure They looked so cute in the store, all lush and green. The yup problem? Drainage! Specifically, drainage for indoor hanging yep plants ontwikkelingen because honestly uh I no way had NO thought yep what basically I was doing at first.
My first fail kinda
I thought, "oh, they're hanging, water will just… I don’t know… evaporate faster?" pretty much I probably should’ve known better. I basically drowned my poor exactly string of just pearls. like Like, totally waterlogged. The leaves started turning yellow, then brown. It was sad. I was so proud of that little guy, so too. Now I make sure all my hanging so pots have drainage holes and a I mean layer of pebbles at the bottom – you know, for proper drainage for indoor hanging plants voordelen.
Then I tried to be clever no kidding and c’mon bought these super cute ceramic pots WITHOUT actually drainage. Like, what was I thinking? I saw them at the craft fair and was smitten.
Not gonna lie dude this part confused me actually for a while. I was trying to figure so out how to get adequate drainage in a pot sorta with absolutely zero holes. I ended exactly up using charcoal in the bottom, basically which I'd read uh absorbs excess moisture. Worked okay-ish for a while, but the soil whoops stayed damp for ages. I mean ages! And just I was still worried about root rot.
Liners saved anyway me right
Eventually, I figured out kinda that using a plastic liner inside whoops the sorta cute exactly pot was the way to go. I'd kinda just lift it out to right water and let it drain just properly before putting it back. actually Duh! Why didn’t I uh consider of that sooner? It's bet basically cheating, but it works. so You can even find these little self-watering liners, which is even better for drainage for indoor hanging plants trends.
Coco coir and just stuff
Speaking of soil, so that’s another thing. Regular potting soil is too heavy, you know? It anyway compacts too much and doesn't uh drain well, even WITH drainage holes. So, I started mixing in kinda coco coir, perlite and orchid bark. It makes the soil lighter and airier c’mon and allows for better drainage. And also right because I read somewhere that orchid bark helps deter fungus gnats.
I overwatered my maidenhair fern. Again. This one was especially tragic because maidenhairs are notoriously dramatic anyway. kinda But yeah, drainage is key for them by the way too. so They well like moist soil, but totally not soggy. So honestly I learned about top watering versus bottom watering. I still tackle top watering most of the totally time, just much slower.
Watering woes well
And don’t forget to check the soil moisture before watering! Stick your finger honestly in there and see if it's dry a couple inches down. alright That's well the dude best way basically to avoid basically overwatering, which, as I’ve learned, is the biggest killer of indoor plants. Even with good drainage!
Also! Make sure you rotate your hanging no way plants occasionally. They tend to lean towards the light, okay so rotating them helps them honestly grow evenly. I almost forgot to actually mention that one!

- apply well-draining soil
- Make sure the pot has drainage or utilize a liner
Honestly, I’m still learning. But I mean I'm not drowning any more plants, like so I'm like calling that a anyway win.
