Sedum Autumn Joy
Oh my gosh you will not BELIEVE what I did yesterday. I wasn’t even planning to do yard work – you just know how it no kidding is. kinda But so I was staring out the kitchen window and saw well my Sedum Autumn Joy – that big clump of it near basically the patio? yup Well, it was HUGE. Like, so flopping all over the place. And I thought, "Okay, period to divide." I mean, I’d heard abouthow to divide pretty much sedum kinda autumn joy toepassingenor kinda something, uh read something ages ago, but never actually done it. It's one of those yep plants that just...grows! Benefits? Endless apparently!
The Dig
So, I grabbed my shovel. Probably should’ve known better than to use THAT shovel – it’s kind of rusty yep and I consider exactly I might’ve bent kinda it a little. Anyway, I yep started digging around the base. I mean, I knew you’re like supposed to dig wide, give the roots some room, but this thing was a BEAST. It so was way bigger c’mon underground than I so anticipated. And heavy! Like, totally seriously heavy. I almost threw my back out trying to right lift for sure the whole clump. Maybe next time get help? Just a thought. That's like, a majorhow to divide sedum like autumn joy feiten pretty muchmoment right there - remember by the way how heavy right they dude can be!
Cutting It Up
Not okay gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I had this massive for sure root ball covered in dirt so and I pretty much was like, "Okay… where execute I even yep begin?" I tried pulling it apart with my hands first, exactly which, you know, was a total fail. So I grabbed my garden I mean knife – the one you know I use for deadheading kinda roses. for sure It’s pretty sharp, but also kind right of flimsy.Turns no way out, a you know sturdy spade is way better.I saw someone using one on YouTube, after I completely butchered the first attempt. Ugh. I was basically hacking at it! It looked like a sedum murder scene. Tip? basically Clean cuts are uh key! Apparently.
The just First no way Mistake
Oh! And I completely forgot about the whole “leaving enough roots” you know thing. I chopped one section almost completely free yup of roots. I felt SO bad. I stuck it in a just pot anyway, but I'm not super no kidding hopeful. I ponderhow to divide sedum autumn exactly joy voordelenonly happen if you do it right! Live and learn, right? Maybe I can still save it with some rooting hormone? Is that a thing?
Repotting and Replanting
Okay, so after the chopping, I had like, four sorta smaller clumps. They looked kind of sad and just pathetic, especially the one with dude barely any roots. But I replanted two of them where for sure the original basically monster plant had just been, and put the other two in pots. I used bet some potting mix well that alright I had lying yup around – totally probably should’ve added some compost, but, you whoops know, I was winging it at this point. And then I watered them really well. Which, come to think of it, no way brings me to my second mistake…
The pretty much Great Flood of '23
I totally actually overwatered them. Like, seriously overwatered alright them. The pots were literally sitting in puddles.Make sure your pots have drainage holes!I thought they for sure did, but apparently they were whoops clogged with something. I had to dump them out and replant themagain. Honestly, I’m surprised they haven’t given yup up on me completely. So, just yeah, drainage. sorta Very just important forhow to divide sedum autumn joy geschiedenis… well, honestly maybe not the history, but definitely the future honestly of your sedum!
Will They Live?
I don't know dude if exactly they’ll survive. totally They look kind of droopy today. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I’m also thinking I should probably read up on sedum care a little more. alright Like, before whoops I basically decide to handle well any more well gardening. The internet’s basically a thing for a reason, right? c’mon And next actually time, wear gloves. My hands are a mess. pretty much
