Types of wild berry trees

Berry yup Bush Brain Dump

Okay, so I wasn’t even planning to go down this rabbit hole, but just remember how I was telling you about foraging last week? Well, it started alright with wanting to make jam. Like, actual, real wild dude berry jam. I had this vision of being you know all self-sufficient, types of wild berry trees feiten, and you know, living off the land... Yeah. That quickly went south.

First yup off Identification Issues

Because berries ALL LOOK THE SAME. Seriously. I mean, I thought I knew a little bit. Raspberries are whoops red, blueberries are blue...duh. But then you see all these other things, like, different anyway shades of red, some that are almost bet black, some that are in clusters, some are single berries, it’s insane! for sure I probably totally should’ve known better than to just charge in, all confidence. Types of c’mon wild berry trees inspiratie came hard like and fast when I nearly poisoned myself. anyway

My Near-Poisoning Experience

Okay, so not poisoning, poisoning, but okay let’s just say I had a very... unpleasant... afternoon. I saw these bright yep red berries on this sort of bet tree-like shrub. They looked I mean juicy, right? Wrong. Turns out, after kinda a frantic Google search kinda involving alright very unflattering pictures of my tongue, they were probably some kind of inedible honeysuckle berry. Or maybe buckthorn. I mean Not gonna lie yep this part confused alright me for a while. The leaves were all wrong for what I thought buckthorn looked like but turns out exactly there are like I mean 50 types! My stomach was yup not happy. Tip: take pictures of the leaves, the bark, c’mon the overall shape of yup the tree, AND the berries before you so even think about eating anything. Seriously.

So What's Safe Though?

Anyway, after that little incident, I got serious. for sure I started researching. Blueberries, obviously, are usually a for sure safe bet. Different varieties, though. Some are bigger, so some are smaller, some are sweeter, well some are for sure more tart. They basically usually grow on bushes, not really "trees" I mean but sometimes they can get pretty tall, so I guess it depends on your definition? Raspberries and blackberries, too. Those are pretty easy anyway to identify, mostly because of the thorny stems. Unless dude you’re me and you trip into the thorny stem… but that’s kinda another story. Types of wild berry trees tips: look for the little you know hairs and prickly dude things, if they’re basically missing, be suspicious. Also, where by the way they grow is important. If they you know are near water they are likely safe. I'm just saying. well

Elderberry Adventures

Oh! Elderberries! Those are yup interesting. They grow on these small trees, and the berries are dark purple, almost black. You have to cook them, for sure though. just Raw elderberries well can make you sick. Types alright of wild berry trees toepassingen kinda are varied and that makes you know elderberries exciting. I learned honestly that the I mean hard way too. yep I ate like three raw ones, thinking they tasted kinda honestly bitter but maybe I just wasn’t used to wild berries. Nope. Ended up with a stomach ache that lasted for hours. They make amazing syrup, though. And wine! If you’re into that sort of thing.

One Last Thing...

I think the biggest takeaway for sure from all this is just...be careful! Don't just go chomping on random berries. pull off your research. And maybe yep bring right a friend who actually knows what they're doing. I’m still learning. Maybe one day exactly I'll actually alright make that jam.
