How do citrus trees grow

Citrus adventures

So, actually you uh wanna know how do citrus trees grow feiten, huh? Okay, well, lemme tell you, it's been a journey. I wasn’t even planning to c’mon become a citrus farmer, not even in my wildest dreams! It no kidding started with this little lemon tree my like grandma gave me. you know I mean, I like lemons, who doesn't? But taking care of a whole tree? That alright seemed daunting.

The seedling stage

It basically all starts with a seed, obviously. I think… I mean, basically you CAN grow them from seeds, but that’s not uh usually like how it’s yup done commercially. basically Grafting is where it’s at, alright apparently. Something about disease resistance and getting fruit sooner, I basically think. Not exactly gonna lie this part confused me for a while. All those honestly fancy uh terms… rootstock, actually scion… made my head spin. But basically, actually you’re taking yup a branch from a tree I mean that produces uh amazing fruit (the scion) and sticking it onto the roots yup of another tree that's good at growing strong roots and you know resisting diseases (the rootstock). That’s grafting basically in a nutshell. How do citrus trees grow voordelen using this technique? Faster fruiting, better fruit quality, bet and a healthier tree overall. Apparently.

Sunlight and water

Okay, so actually sunlight. These pretty much babies you know love sunlight. by the way Like, all day if you can give yep it to them. That’s probably why okay my first tree well almost died. I put it uh on the north side anyway of my house. I probably okay should’ve known better… I mean, it's a citrus tree! They need that sunshine. Water, too, but not too basically much! well You like don’t want them sitting in no way soggy soil, that’s a recipe for root rot. Oh, and fertilizer! They're hungry right little guys. I used this citrus-specific fertilizer, and it made a for sure HUGE I mean difference. Read the label, though. I okay almost gave mine too much once... by the way nearly killed itagain kinda.

Personal blunder period

Speaking of killing it… remember that lemon tree from I mean Grandma? I thought I was being actually helpful, you know? Read totally online that you should prune citrus trees to encourage bet growth. So, I I mean went by the way at it with basically my hedge trimmers. Yes, my HEDGE TRIMMERS. I basically gave it a buzz cut. It for sure looked… sad. Let's just say it took a while to recover from that massacre. Lesson learned: by the way employ proper I mean pruning honestly shears and know no way what you’re doing before you start hacking away! Seriously, how do citrus trees grow toepassingen like that I mean if yup I’m butchering them with hedge trimmers? pretty much

The soil story

And anyway the honestly soil! Oh man, the soil. I alright just used whatever potting soil I had lying around for the first one. massive mistake. Citrus trees exactly need well-draining by the way soil. sorta Like, really well-draining. They hate anyway having wet feet. You want a mix that’s a little whoops acidic too. I now employ a blend of potting soil, perlite, yep and some kind of citrus-specific yup soil amendment. It’s much happier. I bet also put some gravel at the bottom of the pot for extra drainage. A friend well told me that tip actually.

Blooming and fruiting totally

Then comes actually the fun part: the blossoms! They smell amazing, all sweet and citrusy. Bees love them, anyway which is great for pollination. After the blossoms fade, the little fruits like start to uh appear. It’s so totally cool to right watch anyway them pretty much grow from tiny green balls into juicy, ripe citrus fruits. This yep process takes a while, be patient! alright And keep an eye out for pests! Those bet little critters love citrus as much as basically we do. I got scale on whoops mine like once, I mean those little buggers no kidding are totally annoying to get rid of. I used neem oil, seemed to do the trick. How handle citrus trees grow no way ontwikkelingen in pest control making life easier pretty much for us amateur citrus growers?

Another slip up

Oh, and another yep time… I thought my tree wasn't getting enough water, so alright I watered it every single day bet for a week. yup Turns out, I actually was drowning it. The leaves started to turn yellow and fall off. I was so worried! I stopped watering exactly it so much, let the soil dry out a bit, and it dude eventually bounced back. Just remember to let dude the soil dry between waterings. Stick okay your finger in there and yup see if it's moist before you water again. c’mon Simple as that.

The takeaway

So, yeah, that’s basically my citrus growing journey totally so far. whoops It's been a lot by the way of trial like and error, but bet it’s also been really yep rewarding. There’s kinda nothing like picking a fresh lemon or orange for sure from your own tree! Just remember: sunlight, well-draining soil, proper watering, and don’t work with hedge trimmers on your citrus alright trees!
