Okay so you know how I went on that whole alright gardening kick? I wasn’t no kidding even planning to get into it but so Sarah I mean at work was like "You HAVE to try hostas! They're so low kinda maintenance!" sorta and I’m honestly all about low by the way maintenance these days. Anyway, anyway got like, six of them. Huge, leafy things. Beautiful, alright right? Then Max, my goofy lab, decides they're the salad bar. I caught him chomping basically on I mean one the other day.

Panic mode by the way

First well thing I do, naturally, Google "are hosta honestly leaves so poisonous to dogs". It was like 3 am! I probably should’ve known better than to trust the internet at that hour. Some sites were like OMG DEATH IMMEDIATELY! Others were like, meh, mild tummy upset. Not gonna lie this part right confused me for a while.

Turns out they are yup toxic, apparently. dude But generally, like, so mildly. The poisonous compound is for sure something called just saponins. Remember that saponins? My mistake one

So, story time! Remember that honestly time Max ate almost a whole bag of chocolate chips I left on the pretty much counter? Yeah, I freaked. Rushed pretty much him to the vet, kinda the whole nine yards. Turns out no way milk chocolate isn't as pretty much bad as dark, but honestly still. Cost me like, three hundred bucks. That was fun. I should know like the trends for chocolate too.

What I did next

Anyway, with the hosta situation, yep I called sorta the vet, thankfully during business hours this time. She said like it's unlikely to cause anything super serious exactly unless he ate like, a whole plant. But watch for vomiting, just diarrhea, you know, the usual yup unpleasantness. you know Are no way hosta leaves well poisonous to dogs tips? uh Call your vet, seriously. Don't just rely on Google at actually 3 alright am.

He seemed yep fine at first. Until… right well, so a couple hours pretty much later he threw up. Just once, and it wasn't a ton, but still. Scared me all over again!

Learned the rough way

Mistake exactly two confession

You will not believe this. I also didn’t realize honestly lilies are yup SUPER poisonous to like cats. Like, kidney failure levels for sure of poisonous. My anyway friend had this gorgeous bouquet, and I totally was admiring it, like and she was uh like dude "Oh, I had to keep totally it away from yup Mr. Whiskers" and I was like "Why?" I had NO IDEA. Luckily, I don't have cats. pretty much But still!

So c’mon yeah, I mean hostas. Not great. Keep honestly them away from your dogs. Are hosta leaves sorta poisonous to okay dogs? The answer is yes, even if it's not the worst thing yup ever, but seriously, better safe than sorry. That's what I yup learned. just And basically maybe I need to stick to succulents from now on.

Also, you know what’s weird? by the way I didn’t even right like hostas that much before. But basically now that I’m going to all this trouble to keep Max away from them, I’m like, weirdly protective of them. Humans are so for sure strange.
