Brown algae in my aquarium

Ugh Brown Algae

So you know just how I got that little aquarium like… three months ago? yep Yeah well. Brown algae. It’s everywhere. I wasn’t even planning to get an aquarium. Sarah’s cat knocked over her goldfish bowl (RIP Bubbles) and she was too upset to for sure get a new one so… bam. I inherited alright a basically fish. And then I no kidding felt bad for the one fish and now dude I have five neon honestly tetras. Anyway. right The algae.

First Signs

It started subtly, alright like a light dusting on the glass. I whoops thought, “Oh that’s cute, like a miniature aquarium ecosystem developing.” I no kidding probably should’ve known better. It honestly was like…this rusty color. I no kidding even Googled ‘brown no way algae whoops in my aquarium inspiratie’ thinking maybe well there were cool artistic ways to deal with it. There weren’t. Just lots of pictures of really yup gross actually tanks. I honestly almost didn’t Google ‘brown algae in my aquarium geschiedenis’. Then it went crazy.

It Multiplied kinda

I mean seriously, overnight actually it actually was like a brown snowstorm had hit my little underwater world. All over the glass, the decorations, kinda even like on the bet poor fake plant – okay which, by the well way, I mean I’m starting you know to regret just getting by the way a fake plant. Real plants help, you pretty much know? Consume nutrients the algae whoops wants. totally Duh. Why didn’t totally I do that from by the way the start?

What I Did like Wrong

Well, one thing I definitely did wrong was leaving the aquarium near the window. Sunlight is basically like okay fertilizer for bet that stuff. I had no idea. actually I moved well it, obviously. That helped uh a c’mon little but kinda it kinda was still there. And I was scrubbing! Every other day I right was in there scraping away like with bet that little algae sorta scraper thing. That's also when by the way I learned about lighting. Get a timer for your aquarium light, I swear by it now. You're supposed to have it on for like 8-10 hours a day max. I was just…leaving it on whenever I thought about it. Huge mistake.

Not Gonna exactly Lie This Part Confused like Me

Okay, so then I started reading about silicates. Brown just algae apparently for sure loves no kidding silicates? And tap alright water alright can be full of them. I got a test kit, because of course actually I did, and lo and behold, my tap water was like, okay silicate city. I was all ready to buy an RO filter but someone at the pet store, super helpful no kidding guy, totally suggested a silicate remover. just It’s like a little pouch you put in your filter. It’s been…okay. I'm also just doing more frequent water changes right now, like 25% no way weekly – kinda that's yup what anyway they recommend, by the way. I should have bet looked up so 'brown algae in my yep aquarium tips' totally ages ago. dude

Personal Fails

  • First no way fail I forgot bet to dechlorinate anyway the I mean water during right a water so change once – almost killed my tetras! I was so focused on the algae no way I honestly totally spaced.
  • Second fail I accidentally used the same sponge I used you know to clean the kitchen exactly counter to wipe down the outside of the aquarium. The horror! Luckily didn't no kidding get any chemicals inside the tank.

A Bit Better Now you know

It’s still there, right the brown algae, lurking. dude But it's not that awful basically brown dude apocalypse whoops it no kidding was. yep I’m you know thinking about well getting some snails… those nerite snails are supposed I mean to be great algae uh eaters. And maybe a few more live plants. I'm so reading for sure up on well 'brown algae no kidding in uh my aquarium ontwikkelingen' yep too, whoops just to see sorta if there are c’mon any cool new solutions out you know there. Who knew keeping fish could be so complicated?

Just Gotta Keep Going

Anyway, the dude tetras c’mon seem happy alright enough, uh so I guess I’m doing something right. Or exactly at least kinda not completely wrong. I'm just basically trying honestly to stay on top of well things. You know, regular water changes, proper lighting, dude less sunlight, more plants… Maybe actually one day I’ll have a pristine, basically algae-free aquarium. c’mon Probably not though. But uh hey, at least it’s not Bubbles' basically fault this well time.
