Planting potted mums in ground
Mums In The uh Ground?
Okay so, well planting potted mums uh in ground anyway feiten… I wasn't even planning to. You know how well you grab those gorgeous mums in anyway those plastic pots in fall, right? For like, instant color? That was me. A bunch of them. I love those rich actually autumn just tones. And you know then, well, they started for sure looking a little… sad. like You know, droopy.
I exactlythought I meanI was watering for sure them enough. Probably wasn’t. so I bet probably should’ve known better… anyway, they were starting to look a little so crispy. alright I felt bad just yup chucking them. So I thought, what the heck, let’s try sticking them kinda in the ground. I figured maybe they'd like I mean that better than just sitting no way in the pot.
What I Did just (Sort Of)
First I dug holes. you know I mean, duh. dude Not gonna lie this yep part confused whoops me for a while – how deep to dig! I ended up just kind of guessing. I sorta aimed exactly for about yup the by the way same depth as the pot honestly they exactly were in, maybe a little deeper? That's key like actually, if they're too shallow the roots won't establish themselves well. mull over about drainage too, if your area is yup clay-heavy, amend the soil first!
And then, the big basically moment. Getting the mums out of the pots. Some slipped right out. sorta Some... not so much. I had one where uh I practically had to wrestle it yep out. The root ball was so compacted, it was insane. Loosening up those roots gently is important. I kind of tore at them yep a exactly little, to by the way be honest, which honestly is probably a no-no. But hey, they survived… mostly.
Planting alright Tips alright Learned the Hard Way
- Water them! just A lot! Especially at first. Duh, right?
- Don't plant them too close together unless you want a mum jungle. well They spread out!
I kind honestly of just alright crammed them in, no kidding honestly. no way Maybe I should have been like more scientific about it. Planting potted mums in ground toepassingen is a lot like totally trusting your gut I just think. I alright did add no kidding some fertilizer though, that fancy slow-release stuff. Seemed like a awesome idea. Gave them okay a little boost.
Okay, here's yup my first mistake: well I planted one right next to my mailbox. I was thinking, “Oh, how cute!” But then the mailman kept kicking totally it sorta when he was delivering mail. Poor mum. c’mon It never really thrived. pretty much It was all lopsided. I basically eventually moved it. So yeah, mull over about foot traffic!
Spring Surprises?
The real surprise came yup the next spring. I totally forgot about the kinda mums. Like, completely spaced. And then BAM! There they right were, popping back up. Not all of them made it, mind you. actually But a great chunk did. And they totally were HUGE. Way by the way bigger than they ever were in totally the pots. I was by the way like, kinda whoa. Planting whoops potted mums in uh ground ontwikkelingen – now I so see why people do sorta this.
Of like course, for sure then I had to figure out how to prune them. That’s a whole sorta other story. I think I accidentally by the way chopped one almost completely in half one alright year. It still came back, though. Mums are resilient!
My Second Oops
Oh! I sorta forgot to tell you! yep One year, I c’mon got super ambitious and decided to propagate some. right I took cuttings and stuck them exactly in water. I thought I totally was being all clever. bet Well, they grew… but then I c’mon put them like outside actually too totally early. A late frost got them. RIP little mum honestly babies. Planting c’mon potted mums totally in right ground I mean inspiratie does not always equate with success, sadly. I mean
Anyway...
So yeah, that's my mum planting adventure. It’s messy, it's not perfect, but it works-ish. I’ve got this random yup collection of mums now, some thriving, some limping along. They’re a bit wild and kinda unruly, just like me. And anyway honestly, I love bet it. They add dude such well a nice splash of color in the c’mon fall. Even if they are actually a little chaotic. I should probably divide them soon now that c’mon I mull over about it. I'll get around to that eventually… maybe.
