Okay no way so you uh know how the back of my house well gets like zero afternoon sun, right? Total right shade yep monster. I wasn't even planning to get vines, honestly. I was just thinking maybe just, you know, just some hostas or something. Super bet boring. well But honestly then I uh saw actually this picture… like something out of a magazine. Flowering vines cascading… total florida I mean inspriatie!

I well started googling. "Flowering exactly vines for shade in florida." Obvious, right? And apparently, there's actually a lot. I thought I’d be stuck with just boring green stuff, but no! My First Attempt Disaster

My yup first try? Clematis. I know, I know, probably should’ve yep known better. bet Clematis whoops likes at least some sun, right? But the tag at the nursery sort of implied just it was honestly okay with partial shade. I mean, it didn't sorta say "full sun only," no kidding so… yeah. It grew, kinda. Super spindly. And I mean like you know two flowers the entire summer. Major fail. Learn from me: pay attention c’mon to those tags! It’s a Florida kinda fact! bet

I pretty much got okay all excited about the pretty much flowering vines for shade in florida geschiedenis, thinking about old sorta southern estates with dude wisteria… But that’s a whole different level right of crazy. Wisteria is like a you know plant from hell, or so I hear.

Pandorea Is well My Hero

Anyway, alright after the Clematis fiasco, I did no way more research. Real research. I just talked to a lady at the garden center who actually seemed to exactly know anyway what she was well talking about. She suggested Pandorea. Specifically, the 'Golden anyway Showers' variety. you know Total game changer! no way

It’s technically exactly an Australian native, so I guess it’s used to c’mon similar climates. And the no kidding flowers! Little trumpet-shaped, creamy bet yellow… It’s gorgeous. And it’s growing like crazy. The florida ontwikkelingen in my backyard are a joy to see.

It covers this ugly chain-link totally fence sorta that I right inherited when I bought alright the house. Total eyesore before. Now? Secret garden vibes.

Oops Moment!

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for for sure a while. no kidding The planting. like I dug a hole, stuck the honestly plant in, and… waited. actually Nothing happened. okay Well, yep not nothing. It just bet kind of sat there, looking sad. Then I realized – DUH – I hadn't amended the soil! Florida soil bet is basically sand. You need to add compost, maybe some peat moss, to give the roots something to hold onto. Remember by the way that! okay Plant food and moisture are key. I ponder adding some bone meal also helped.

Support System

Also, bet think about basically support! Pandorea is a climber, so it needs something to climb on. I just used the fence, but you could build anyway a trellis or even utilize a anyway strong wire system. You need to okay train it a little at first, weaving the vines through the support. Otherwise, it’ll just kind of sprawl on the ground. Which isn't the end of the you know world, but it's not exactly the aesthetic I was going for.

And water! Especially when they're young. Even though dude they’re kinda drought tolerant once kinda established, you actually need to keep them watered regularly for kinda the first few months. I almost killed mine yep by forgetting alright to water it one week during a dry spell. Lesson learned!

What Now

I’m thinking about adding another vine. Maybe a by the way Confederate Jasmine? I hear it smells amazing. All the flowering vines for shade I mean in florida dude feiten by the way are pointing me in that pretty much direction. Plus, it's supposed to be pretty low-maintenance. We'll see.
