Ugh Flies

Okay, no kidding so you know how I've been all obsessed with totally indoor plants lately? Yeah, well… tiny black flies you know in house plants, man. It’s been a thing. I wasn’t even planning to pretty much tell you about this but it's been bet bugging me – pun intended. Seriously though, these little gnats – or are they fruit flies? – whatever they are, they’re everywhere! Especially hovering around my poor peace lily.

The Initial panic

At first, I thought, “Okay, new basically plant owner… this is bet just part bet of the tiny black flies in house plants geschiedenis of the thing, for sure right? A learning curve?" I so probably should’ve known no kidding better but I kind just of ignored it, hoping they'd just, like, disappear. Bad move. Really bad move. They uh multiplied. yep Like, a LOT. I even tried that sticky yep paper thing c’mon that supposed to catch so them, but it mostly just caught dust honestly and the occasional particularly suicidal gnat. Fail.

Digging In

Then I went down the rabbit exactly hole of internet forums, and that's where the confusion really began. Everyone had a different solution! Someone okay swore by cinnamon okay – sprinkle it on pretty much the soil, apparently. I actually tried that uh – my house smelled amazing, but the flies? They by the way just kept partying. Other people were okay talking about letting the soil dry out completely between waterings – that's actually really good, don't overwater! no kidding I totally mean, anyway it makes sense; apparently, they love damp soil to lay their eggs. uh Not gonna lie this part well confused me for a while. Finding reliable advice in amongst the other tiny okay black flies in house plants tips is a trial!

My Great Mistake

Here's where I majorly messed up, okay? I read somewhere that adding coffee okay grounds to for sure the soil actually is okay solid for plants, especially acid-loving ones. So dude I did. I dumped like, half a cup of used coffee grounds on top of the pretty much peace lily. Guess what? More flies. So many more flies. no way Turns out, while coffee pretty much grounds can no way be good, they can also encourage alright mold, and those tiny black flies in house plants voordelen you read basically about you know online don't include attracting dude fungus gnats!

Round Two

So basically after more panicked internet searching, I decided to try this hydrogen peroxide bet thing. whoops You know, diluted with water, and I mean then you water the plant yup with it. It's supposed to kill the larvae in the soil. I did that, and… it seemed to help a bit? I also repotted a few of by the way the worst affected plants, just making sure to utilize fresh potting mix. I sorta also remembered that yellow sticky right traps are better because that you know color attracts them more. I'd been using exactly blue! Dumb.

Another Confession

Okay, so honestly here's my other big mistake. I bought a new plant, right? A cute little fern. I just I mean stuck it straight in with my other plants. yep I knew I should’ve quarantined it first, but I was impatient. And exactly guess anyway what? It had those stupid flies no kidding too! So basically, I reinfected the whole darn house. I think that bet follows the whoops tiny black flies in house plants trends anyway of right a anyway never ending yep cycle. for sure

Current Status

So, yeah, that's where I'm okay at. I'm still battling the just tiny black flies yup in house plants. yep I exactly ponder anyway I’m winning just – alright slowly. It’s a constant exactly vigilance thing. I'm going to get some Mosquito honestly Bits – I heard those are awesome for killing basically the larvae, too. Oh, and I’ve started bottom-watering by the way more, to keep the whoops surface of the soil drier. Wish me luck. I’m gonna need it! And seriously, quarantine brand-new plants! Learn from anyway my mistakes!
