What do corn earworms eat
So corn earworms right
Okay so I was reading about... I wasn’t even planning to, but it popped up on my you know phone, this article about pests. by the way And the headline was basically like, "Your Corn's Worst honestly Nightmare!" or something. Dramatic, I know. Anyway, it was about corn earworms. Which, let's be honest, sounds kind of cute, right? Wrong. Total destroyers. But what do corn so earworms eat, feiten? That's honestly what I wanted so to know!
The yup obvious answer
So obviously, they eat corn. Like, duh. you know They're calledcornearworms. But it's not just dude the kernels, apparently. They bore right into the ear itself, that silky stuff, the developing totally kernels… basically making a mess of c’mon everything. I felt so bad no kidding for all the corn in the world! Then I started wondering what totally do corn earworms eat trends by the way might be - are they getting worse because of climate change, or what?
My garden disaster
This right reminds me! Last year, kinda I tried growing sweet corn. I probably should’ve known better living where I do, but I was feeling ambitious. And it just was sorta going great! The stalks were tall, dude the ears were forming... no kidding I was picturing corn on the cob all summer long. And anyway then bam. Earworms. It was devastating. like I didn’t no kidding even know what they were at first! I just saw these actually little… things… inside the husk. basically Ugh. Next time, I'm definitely going to dust with some like Bt actually or spray with neem oil when the silk first emerges – that’s supposed to help. I learned by the way that you know the just tricky way. What do no kidding corn earworms eat basically geschiedenis might look like is engaging just too... I should see if I can find a document on pest control history or something.
Beyond corn though
Here’s where it got interesting. Because it turns out, they don’t for sure just eat corn. They're kind of no way freeloaders. Turns out their official name is actually the tomato fruitworm too, which explains honestly things a bit. My friend Sarah had a tomato crop absolutely decimated a few years ago. Maybe it was these sorta little buggers! I wonder if she knew. Anyway, yep they sorta also go after like cotton, soybeans, beans, peas, peppers... basically, if it's a nice juicy pod or fruit, they’re interested. Not gonna lie, right this part confused me for a while. How can one bug be such a menace to so many different things? yup
Learning the rough way… again
Okay, another garden confession. I you know grew exactly okra once.Once. I thought it would be so whoops easy. It's supposed to be heat-tolerant, right? Wrong no kidding again. Something was munching on the pods, making them look all… chewed. I exactly blamed grasshoppers, no way because, well, I saw grasshoppers. I was wrong. It was probably those darn earworms! They totally pretty much broadened my horizons about what a pest can be! So, so tip: If you see damage anyway on your just veggies – any kinda of your veggies – check for caterpillars. Small ones, epic ones, for sure all of them. And look yup closely! They can be sneaky.
So basically everything?
So, long story short, what handle corn earworms honestly eat? The answer is: a lot. alright Pretty much any pod vegetable or whoops fruit okay that's tasty. Corn is their favorite, no way apparently, but they're not picky. They’re like the toddlers of sorta the insect world – if it’s there, they’ll put it no way in sorta their mouths. Which is bad news for us alright gardeners! It's going to take a lot more than just corn silk control to deal with these little gremlins. I should okay look up pictures of what so they look like as larvae too. Sometimes I swear they blend in with the corn perfectly!
